Decade of Dignity and Development | WYA 1999-2009

Welcome to the WYA Decade of Dignity and Development website. Please choose your region:

Decade of Dignity and Development

The Decade of Dignity and Development, WYA 1999-2009 is a celebration of WYA's ten years of work promoting the dignity of the person in development. As a year of conferences and global events, the DDD celebrations are intended to unite young people, leaders in the public sector, the best practices around the world and give them a global center stage.

International Conference

Each region will host a conference and membership event highlighting how dignity drives development within that region. These will culminate at the end of the year with an international conference in New York with representatives from each region along with speakers presenting the global overview. Click the link above for more information.

3-D Film Festival

Also, a film festival will showcase in 3-D the way young film directors see the world. The WYA Development Awards, given to persons creating best practices and development initiatives based on the dignity of the person will be highlighted during the DDD celebrations. WYA membership growth and project development will result from the DDD celebrations in each of its regions in addition to media coverage, local government awareness and social outreach.

What is the World Youth Alliance?

The World Youth Alliance is a global coalition of young people committed to promoting the dignity of the person and building solidarity among youth from developed and developing nations. We train young people to work at the regional and international levels to impact policy and culture. Through this lived experience of the dignity of the person, young people are able to affirm life at all levels of society.

The work of WYA has three main thrusts: training, advocacy and culture. We train young people to impact policy and culture through a deeper understanding of human dignity, preparing members to effectively articulate and implement their ideas. We offer internships at our regional office or at our other regions. We send trained members to participate at international organizations such as the United Nations and the European Union. We also create and promote person-centered cultural projects, bringing young people together and offering a lived experience of the idea of the dignity of the person.
